Getting braces is a wonderful way to boost your oral health, but it can be intimidating to begin your treatment. However, your first orthodontist appointment is a simple and easy appointment. Read on to discover what to expect in your first appointment.

Complimentary Consultation

The first thing you’ll do upon entering the orthodontist’s office is go through a consultation to determine the current state of your teeth and jaw. You’ll be given a complete exam to assess your current state of oral health. X-rays will be taken of your mouth, as well as a traditional dental examination. The orthodontist will also discuss your dental history and any previous conditions they should know about. After getting any necessary information from you about your finances and insurance plan, they’ll work with you to decide on the best treatment option. If you live in the Woodlands area, Farley Orthodontics accepts nearly all dental plans that include orthodontic coverage.

Decide on Treatment

There are several different orthodontic treatment options you can complete in order to fix any dental issues you may have. The most popular is, of course, traditional braces, which are wires fixed to your teeth by metal brackets. However, some individuals prefer alternate means of adjusting their teeth. These can include Invisalign and lingual braces, to name a few. Invisalign treatment is completed by wearing clear plastic aligners that slowly adjust your teeth back into place. These are less visible than traditional braces, and can be removed when you eat. This can provide more flexibility than traditional braces. Lingual braces are traditional braces that are fastened to the backside of your teeth instead of the front, making them less visible as well. Each of these options has different pros and cons, and Dr. Farley will work with you to determine which treatment option will work best for you.

Get Things Scheduled

After deciding which type of treatment option you’d like to complete, the next step is to begin scheduling your appointments for treatment. Your first appointment will be the installation of your braces. After the initial installation, you’ll need to schedule appointments every 4-8 weeks for adjustments. Normally, the braces treatment lasts roughly two years, but differs based on the severity of your condition.

Getting braces treatment is a wonderful opportunity to correct any alignment issues and improve your oral health. Braces can also boost your confidence and give you a more comfortable smile. At Farley Orthodontics, the variety of options allows you to find treatment no matter your lifestyle or budget.
